RAJANPUR, July 15: Scores of farmers threw traffic out of gear and demonstrated in front of the XEN office on Saturday to protest the suspension of water supply at the Dajal Canal.

The rally was led by Kissan Board tehsil president Rasheed Ahmed Khan Langah. Mirza Khan, Abdul Ghafoor, Abdul Aziz, Ghulam Sarwer, Allah Bakhsh, Bahadur Khan Dreshak, Bilal Ahmed and hundreds of other farmers also participated in the demonstration.

Protesters alleged that they were forced to drink the pond water, as the canal water had not been reaching the tail-end for the last one year. They said the underground water, being brackish, could not be used for drinking purpose.

Later, Irrigation SE Javed Toosi and XEN Ramzan Bhatti reached there after about five hours and assured the protesters that water would be released in the Dajal Canal within two days.
