TOBA TEK SINGH: The Faisalabad Sargodha Road Police claimed to have arrested a murder case suspect 17 years after the murder during a raid in Gujranwala on Sunday.

Police spokesperson said that in 2009 Zahreruddin had shot dead his brother-in-law Shafqat Hussain after a quarrel over domestic issues in Islamia Park. He claimed that after the murder he went underground.

Now, police found a clue about the suspect and in a successful raid arrested him, he added.

ENCOUNTER: An alleged robber belonging to Toba Tek Singh was killed in an encounter with the People’s Colony Police in Faisalabad late on Saturday night.

Police claimed that two suspects riding a motorcycle were signalled to stop at a picket near Abdullahpur Canal Bridge but they opened fire on the policemen. Police said that they hid in the nearby bushes along the canal and continued to fire on the team, which also returned fire in self defense.

When the cross firing between the two sides stopped, police claimed to found one suspect in injured condition by the firing of his accomplice, who had managed to flee. He was shifted to the Allied Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, police claimed. He was identified as Naveed Abbas of Chak 394 JB, who was declared as a PO by a court in a number of robbery cases.

ADMISSIONS: The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) on Sunday conducted the first entrance test for the undergraduate degree admissions.

A total of 12,678 candidates appeared across 13 test centers.

According to Director Admission Dr Muhamad Muzammil Jahangir, test centers were established in 13 cities including Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Lahore, Gujranwala, Layyah, Depalpur (Okara), Narowal, Rawalpindi, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, and Burewala.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali along with other officials visited different centers in Faisalabad and inspected the arrangement.

The candidates who could not apply for the first entrance test are encouraged to get themselves registered for the second entrance test. The online registration for the second entrance test will be held from July 8 to July 24, and the test will be held on August 2.

INAUGURATIONS: Faisalabad Deputy Commissioner Nadeem Nasir on the last day of his posting in the city, inaugurated a state-of-the-art dialysis center at the Hilal Ahmar Maternity Hospital and an e-library at the Kaleem Shaheed Park on Narwala Road.

DG FDA Muhammad Asif Chaudhry, Deputy Director Development Syed Naveed, Medical Superintendent Hafiz Mukhtar Randhawa, Masood Bukhari, Haji Ramzan, Col Ijaz, Haji Yasin and other philanthropists were also present.

The DC said that establishing a dialysis center was his dream, which had been completed and modern medical facilities were available at the center. He thanked philanthropists for their cooperation in establishing the dialysis center.

While inaugurating the e-library, he said that the library established in the spacious environment of the park was a gift for book lovers. He said that earlier, e-libraries had been established in the Jinnah Garden and Kashmir Park D-Ground, where a large number of book lovers visited every day to read books in an enriching environment.

INCOMPLETE UNDERPASS: Jamaat-i-Islami district emir Dr Attaullah Hameed said that three years ago, construction of a railway underpass was started on the Toba Road in Gojra at a cost of Rs1.42 billion but after excavation, the work on it was suddenly stopped due to lack of funds.

He said this while addressing a press conference in Gojra on Sunday.

He claimed that the excavation for the underpass had resulted in water accumulation up to several feet. He said that this resulted in damage to nearby houses belonging to poor citizens and the stench had spread throughout the area, leading to an increase in infectious diseases.

He added that citizens had been facing difficulties due to the incomplete construction of the underpass. He demanded that the government provide funds for the completion of this project, which had become a headache for the area people.
