PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police chief Zulfiqar Hameed on Thursday said police in the province is carrying out operations against terrorists in order to protect life and property of citizens.
He stated that although, terrorism was a global challenge, police in the province would make sure peaceful Muharram.
The KP police chief said this while talking to media persons after visiting and reviewing security arrangements made for the central Muharram procession in Peshawar’s Saddar area. He was accompanied by CCPO Peshawar Dr Mian Saeed Ahmad, SSP operations Peshawar Farhan Khan, chief traffic officer Dr Zahidullah and other senior police officers.
Mr Hameed told media persons that over 50,000 police personnel had been deployed for security of Muharram procession across the province adding that in Peshawar alone, over 12,000 personnel performed duties.
Meanwhile, during a visit to review security arrangements for protection of Muharram processions, Mr Ahmad stated that police officers and personnel had been performing duties with commitment, adding that police were fully alert to deal with any kind of situation.
“Modern technology is being utilised to ensure security of the processions, Imambargahs, Mosques and other sensitive locations. Drone cameras, anti-drone systems, anti-drone guns and other modern gadgets are being used for security of the Muharram processions across the district,” he said.
The CCPO also stated that sweeping and clearance of the Muharram processions’ routes was constantly being done besides the bomb disposal units and sniffers dogs were deployed, adding that mourners were only allowed to enter processions after going through a three-layered security check.
