Police conduct flag march

RAWALPINDI: Police carried out a flag march in the city to boost the sense of security and public confidence on Monday. Moreover, the police also conducted a mock exercise at Imambargah Hussaini Luddan Shah New Katarian in the New Town area.

The aim of the mock exercise was to check police operational preparedness and response capabilities to ensure imambarghs’ protection in Muharram.

Police sources said that keeping in view the prevailing security situation and to ensure preparedness for any emergency, practical drills were carried out regarding emergency response, evacuation, search operations and inter-agency coordination.

Well-equipped officials of Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), Bomb Disposal Squad, Special Branch officials, Elite Force commandos, Rescue 1122 staff and a contingent from the New Town participated in the mock exercise. All participating departments demonstrated effective coordination, preparedness and operational readiness to respond to any emergency situation during Muharram.

On the instructions of CPO Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani, the police conducted a flag march in Rawal Division regarding the 7th Muharram procession.

Senior Superintendent of Police Operations Malik Tariq Mehboob led the flag march which started from the Police Lines Headquarters and passed through all the main roads across the city and ended at the Police Lines Headquarters.

The aim of the flag march was to express the commitment of the police to maintain law and order and ensure foolproof security, said the SSP operations.

“The protection of the lives and property of citizens is the top priority, for which Rawalpindi Police is working diligently day and night,” he said.

Meanwhile, City Traffic Police have chalked out a traffic plan for the 7th Muharram procession to ensure smooth flow of traffic in the city.

According to the traffic plan, more than 225 personnel will be deployed at the procession and diversion points. The procession will start from Nishtar Street, Sadiqabad, after Maghrib prayers, which will pass through Transformer Chowk, Kuri Road, Chah Sultan, Glass Factory Chowk, Zafarul Haq Road, Leprosy Hospital, Murree Road, Committee Chowk, Iqbal Road and reach Naya Mohalla Chowk.
