QUETTA: The Balochistan government has formally abolished the religious affairs department, with its employees and assets redistributed among other government departments.

The religious affairs department has been dissolved and services of its 1,237 employees have been placed under the control of divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners, says a notification issued by the services and general administration department.

The department’s properties, vehicles and office infrastructure have been handed over to the revenue department of the provincial government, officials said, adding that Rs4 billion held by the department under Zakat funds was transferred to Balochistan Endowment Fund.
