KARACHI, July 11: The Sindh Minister for Women Development, Dr Saeeda Malik, on Monday evening has assured that legalities involved in the release of more than 1,300 women, including 60 inmates, under Presidential Ordinance 2006, will be sorted out in a day or two.

She acknowledged the anxiety among women inmates and their relatives, desperately waiting for their release. “Release of these 60 women is imminent which will take only a brief wait,” she said without going into details of the legalities involved.

Replying to a question, Dr Malik said the ordinance was not only a development to be rejoiced as women who in most of the cases were also mothers, jailed for minor offences, were being released but from now onwards no woman could any more be jailed for bailable cases.—APP
