ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) have made the birth and death registration system in Islamabad online.
As a result, citizens can now register births and deaths and obtain certificates from their homes without visiting the MCI and union council offices.
Chief Commissioner Islamabad and CDA Chairman Sohail Ashraf inaugurated the facility.
During a briefing on the occasion, officials said the service was being provided on the Pak ID app in collaboration with the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra).
Under the facility, all steps, including submitting applications, making secure online payments and obtaining digital certificates, can be made possible through the app.

The registration system has been made online as part of the ongoing digitisation initiative of the MCI.
“Under this facility, citizens can now submit applications with secure online payment and receive approved digital certificates directly on their mobile phones.
“This facility will not only save time and resources but will also make access to government services more convenient and transparent,” it stated.
The chief commissioner said CDA, MCI and ICT in collaboration with Nadra and other institutions were taking measures to improve service delivery and provide facilities to citizens at their doorsteps by utilising modern technology.
Meeting on air quality
Meanwhile, the CDA chairman held a meeting with a delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) regarding environmental protection as well as improvement of air quality and the city’s atmosphere.
The delegation included Principal Financial Sector Specialist Andrew C. McCartney and ADB urban experts. Relevant officers from CDA also attended the meeting. The meeting discussed challenges such as air pollution in the capital, improvement of air quality and environmental protection.
Mr Ashraf said that environmental protection, including the elimination of air pollution, was among the top priorities. He said that every possible measure was being taken to preserve the green cover of the federal capital and in that regard policy decisions as well as various eco-friendly initiatives were being worked upon.
Under ADB’s “Clean Air Finance and Emission Reduction Sector Development Programme,” Islamabad will be developed as a model city for modern initiatives and pilot projects aimed at improving air quality. The objective of the programme is to implement financial and administrative reforms required to address air pollution at the national level.
Under the National Clean Air Policy (NCAP) for environmental protection, focus has been placed on transport, industry, municipal waste burning, household solid fuel cooking and agricultural residue burning. A clean air plan will be developed and implemented in Islamabad.
The ADB will provide technical support for these various initiatives.
A modern air quality monitoring network will also be established in the capital. The monitoring system will provide real-time data on air quality. Similarly, green financing and the acquisition of carbon credits in the carbon market will also be facilitated.
