PESHAWAR: An elderly woman from Shabqadar has appealed to the authorities for the recovery and repatriation of her 20-year-old son, alleging that he was sent to Libya through irregular migration channels and has been missing since April 12.
Speaking to journalists at Peshawar Press Club on Friday, Basura Bibi, wife of Sabz Ali and a resident of Matta Mughalkhel, Daryab Korona area of Shabqadar, said her son, Amir, was sent to Libya after local agents allegedly took Rs2.4 million from the family on the promise of arranging employment abroad.
According to her, the family later came to know that Amir had allegedly fallen into the hands of criminal elements after reaching Libya.
Basura Bibi alleged that after her son’s arrival in Libya, additional payments amounting to Rs500,000 were demanded for his release. She claimed the family arranged the money despite financial hardship and said her son later remained stranded and unemployed in Libya.
She further alleged that communication with Amir ceased after April 12 and that the family had no information regarding his whereabouts since then.
The woman said an FIR had already been registered in the case but claimed that the alleged agents had since gone into hiding. She added that the family had borrowed money from relatives and sold livestock to arrange the required funds.
Appealing to the authorities, she urged the interior ministry, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police officials to investigate the matter, recover her son and ensure action against those allegedly involved.
She also requested that efforts be made to recover the money paid by the family.
