Attack on Dera checkpost repulsed

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A terrorist attack on Khutti checkpost in the jurisdiction of Dera Town police station was repulsed after a swift response by police in the wee hours of Friday.

According to police, attackers launched an assault on the checkpost using heavy weapons. The assailants reportedly breached the outer wall and were attempting to gain access to the facility when a distress call was received by the police control room.

A quick response team led by DSP Suburb Circle Hafiz Mohammad Adnan rushed to the scene and engaged the attackers.

Officials said the timely intervention forced the terrorists to flee. The assailants abandoned a pistol, several magazines, hand grenades and other items at the scene. Police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the attackers.

Meanwhile, DPO Ziauddin Ahmed visited the checkpost and was briefed regarding the attack and the ensuing response.
