LAHORE: The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has finalised an extensive programme to provide international exposure to its junior and youth teams, with the Under-18 and Under-21 boys’ sides, along with the Under-18 girls’ team, set to participate in overseas tournaments as part of efforts to develop future talent for national teams.

According to sources in hockey circles, the PHF is considering a major revamp of the national side after Pakistan’s campaign at the 2026 Asian Games, to be held in Japan in September. Several senior players are likely to be dropped as the federation looks to build a younger squad and gradually integrate emerging talent into the senior set-up.

In a press release issued on Thursday, the PHF said the Pakistan U-18 boys’ team would participate in a five-a-side tournament in Oman.

The federation also approved support for the participation of the Pakistan Under-18 girls’ team in an international five-a-side event after the conclusion of the National Hockey Championship.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Under-21 team will travel to Oman in July to feature in international competition and exposure matches aimed at preparing players for higher-level assignments.

The PHF said the initiatives reflected its commitment to investing in the future of Pakistan hockey by ensuring regular international exposure for players across senior, junior and youth categories, including both men’s and women’s teams.

“June and July are proving particularly active and productive for Pakistan hockey, with senior national teams, junior teams and U-18 squads all benefiting from international engagements designed to enhance their competitive capabilities,” the federation said.
