KARACHI: The University of Karachi (KU) and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide internships to students of the Department of Computer Science, while CTD personnel will receive computer-related education.
A CTD statement said that KU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi and CTD Deputy Inspector General of Police retired Capt Ghulam Azfar Mahesar signed the MoU.
The primary objective of the MoU is to foster institutional cooperation. The internship opportunities will provide students with practical industry experience through live projects, while the university department will offer professional training and computer-related education to CTD personnel.
According to the MoU, third- and final-year students will be selected for structured internship programmes focused on enhancing their practical software engineering, data analysis and technical skills. The CTD will provide selected students with opportunities to work on real-world technological projects, giving them valuable industry exposure and hands-on experience.
On the occasion, DIG Mahesar said that his department was keen to establish a strong liaison with academia. “Besides our main work, we are also engaging with youngsters to reduce violent behaviour and extremist thinking among them, and universities are the best platforms through which to engage with them,” he observed.
“Both institutions have recognised the importance of bridging the gap between academia and law enforcement through technological innovation and capacity building.”
