MIRAMSHAH (North Waziristan), July 10: One person was killed and two others injured when security forces opened fire after a bomb explosion near here on Monday. Militants had announced a 30-day ceasefire last month to level ground for lasting peace in the troubled tribal area along the Afghan border.

The latest act of subversion was the second since militants announced the ceasefire.

Just a day after ceasefire a suicide bomber had rammed his explosive-laden car into a paramilitary checkpost on June 26, and killed seven soldiers and wounded 26 others.

On Monday, sources and eyewitnesses said, improvised explosive device went off near a seminary in Eidak village, about 12 km east of Miramshah when a military convoy was heading from the agency headquarters to Bannu.

They said that explosive device went off when the convoy had passed. The soldiers in the convoy survived unhurt.

Residents said that security forces cordoned off the area and resorted to indiscriminate firing. Three people were wounded in the firing, who were shifted to a hospital in Miramshah.

They said that one of the injured — Naseer Khan son of Mahmood — died in the hospital. Two other wounded tribesmen, Noor Ghani and Nauman were said to be in stable condition.

FLOOD: Flash flood in Toochi river has killed two persons, while five others were missing on Sunday night, sources said.

They said that North Waziristan Agency and its adjoining areas received rains, which caused heavy flood in Toochi river. The floodwater caused widespread damage and washed away agriculture land.

The sources said that seven members of a family were trapped in the floodwater, while people had recovered two bodies. Search for the remaining five was underway.
