MOHMAND: To improve girls’ education in Mohmand tribal district, KP education department has successfully restored 15 previously non-functional girls’ schools in remote border areas and enrolled about 4,181 out-of-school girls during first month of district-wide enrollment campaign.

District education officer (female) Laila Ali said that the restored schools, located in Baizai and Safi tehsils along Pakistan-Afghan border, were currently providing education to over 385 girl students who previously had little or no access to formal education.

She said reopening of these schools had helped restore educational opportunities to girl students and encouraged more families to send their daughters to schools.

According to Laila Ali, Mohmand district has 186 girls’ primary schools, 38 middle schools, 15 high schools and one girls’ higher secondary school, with a total enrollment of 24,997 students.

Despite recent improvements, she noted that access to education remains a significant challenge, with 54,181 girls still out of school across the district. To address the issue, education department has launched a comprehensive enrollment campaign for the 2026-27 academic year, setting a target of enrolling 10,380 out-of-school girls.

“The campaign has shown encouraging results during its initial phase, with 4,181 girls enrolled within the first month,” Ms Ali said, adding that the drive would continue until December 31, 2026, with the support of teachers, parents, local elders and community representatives.
