KARACHI: A young man was shot dead in Shah Latif Town on Wednesday morning, police said.

They said that the deceased was identified as Rizwan, 19.

His brother, Sultan, told the media at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre that he, Rizwan and another relative were walking to a textile mill, where they worked, when three robbers riding a motorcycle intercepted them in Abdullah Goth.

He said the suspects snatched their mobile phones and as they were fleeing, Rizwan threw stones and the criminals opened fire. As a result, a bullet struck him in the chest and proved fatal.

However, area SHO Mumtaz Marwat said that Rizwan had a criminal record and apparently he was shot by a citizen during a robbery.

He said that Rizwan’s family had taken away the body from JPMC without allowing doctors to conduct a post-mortem examination. He said that the relatives had said that they did not wish to register an FIR.
