MARDAN: A land dispute claimed the lives of three persons, including two women, in the Kandharay area of Garikapura tehsil of Mardan district, police said on Tuesday.

A complainant, Ziyad Ali, stated in the FIR registered with the Garikapura police station that he was sleeping inside his room while his parents and wife were asleep outside in the veranda when their rivals entered their home in the wee hours of Tuesday and opened indiscriminate fire on the inmates.

As a result of the firing, he said his parents, Ajmal, 55, Ms Rawaida, 40, and his wife, Salma, 25, died on the spot. He claimed that he himself narrowly escaped the firing as he woke up to the gunshots and rushed outside his room.

He told the police the accused managed to escape the scene.

The complainant nominated five accused in the triple murder case, identifying them as Bilal, Mubasar and Noorul Basar, sons of Abdus Salam, and their relatives, Shah Faisal and Ali Zaman.

The complainant said that a land dispute was the reason behind the incident.

The police began further investigations into the case.
