RAWALPINDI: A man and his son were shot dead, while two women passersby were injured in an apparent targeted ambush allegedly carried out by their rivals here on Saturday night.

Syed Omer Farooq, a resident of Chakra, lodged an FIR with the Naseerabad police, stating that he and Syed Ismail Shah had gone to Chakra to offer funeral prayers. He said Syed Shahzad Tabasum and his son, Syed Mustafa Shah, also arrived there in their car.

He said that after attending the funeral prayers, Shahzad and others were returning to their homes in their car. When they reached near Nai Abadi Chakra Road at about 10:20pm on Saturday, a speeding car approached from behind and blocked the way of Shahzad’s vehicle.

He stated that after blocking Shahzad’s car, several suspects got out of their vehicle and opened fire on Shahzad and Syed Mustafa Shah.

As a result, Shahzad, 54, and his son Mustafa Shah, 20, sustained critical injuries, while two women were also injured.

He said they narrowly escaped the attack by hiding behind a car. After the attackers fled, they found Shahzad and Syed Mustafa dead in their vehicle. The motive behind the double murder was stated to be a land dispute. Raja Altaf had reportedly registered a case against Shahzad Tabasum.

Later, police arrived at the scene and shifted the bodies to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) for postmortem examination.

A police spokesman said City Police Officer Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani took notice of the shooting near Naseerabad and directed the SSP Investigation to visit the spot, submit a report and immediately arrest the accused.
