Four killed, 23 injured in Bannu rainstorm

BANNU: Four people were killed, and 23 others were injured as a heavy downpour coupled with a windstorm caused widespread destruction across Bannu district on Friday.

The deceased included Bilqiaz Khan, belonging to Mughalkhel Bharat area, daughter of Gulzad Ali, wife and daughter of Shafidullah.

The heavy rainfall and windstorm damaged a large number of houses, shops and other properties across the district. Several incidents of wall and roof collapse were reported, trapping residents, including women and children, under the debris.

Upon receiving emergency calls, Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the affected areas and launched operations. The injured were pulled from the rubble and shifted to hospitals.

The district administration declared an emergency in all public hospitals under MTI Bannu. Doctors, nurses, and other medical staff were directed to remain on high alert to ensure prompt medical care for all affected individuals.

According to Rescue 1122 officials, additional rescue teams and ambulances were deployed after receiving multiple emergency calls from different areas. Rescue operations are still underway, while authorities continue assessing the extent of the damage.

The district administration has urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions, stay away from dilapidated buildings and weak structures, and immediately contact Rescue 1122 in case of any emergency.

Officials said that weather conditions are being closely monitored and all relevant departments remain on alert to deal with any further emergencies.
