KARACHI: Haziq Areejo and Raahim Veqar advanced to the men’s singles final of the Second Sohaila University national tennis championships here at the Modern Club on Thursday.
Haziq beat Yahya Bin Zain 8-2 in the semi-final after overcoming Amir Mumtaz 8-4 in the quarter-final. Raahim defeated Ruhab Faisal 8-4 in the other last-four fixture following an 8-4 quarter-final win over Nadir Bachani of Hyderabad. Yahya had earlier reached the semis by beating Huzaifa Lakhani 8-4.
In U-18 last-eight fixtures, Islamabad’s Mohammad Yahya downed Nuaz Shahbaz of Lahore 6-3, 6-1, Haziq eased past Arham Shahzad 6-2, 6-2, Zain Nomi edged Ansarullah 7-6, 6-4 and Rashid Bachani of SNGPL defeated Ruhab 6-1, 6-4.
The girls U-18 penultimate round clashes saw Eschelle Asif beating Ayla Benazir 6-2, 6-1 and Rania Bus overpowering Noor Hilalay 6-3, 6-1.
Eschelle also progressed in the women’s final following a convincing 8-1 triumph over Taiba Yar Baig 8-1.
Eschelle will be up against Eraj Batool, who crushed Varisha Khan 8-1, in the decider.
The U-14 boys semis witnessed Mohammad Muaz Shahbaz of Lahore defeating Meer Bhagat 4-2, 4-0.
