DARWIN, July 8: Captain Venugopal Rao scored 55 on Saturday to guide India ‘A’ to a four-wicket win over Australia ‘A’ in the quadrangular series one-day match at the TIO Stadium on Saturday.

Australia ‘A’, batting first, managed only 213 before being bowled out in the 49th over and India ‘A’ reached 216 for six, scoring the winning runs with eight balls to spare.

The loss was Australia ‘A’s second in the tournament, after their eight-wicket drubbing by New Zealand ‘A’.

Brad Haddin and Brad Hodge shared Australia's top score of 56, Haddin taking his runs from 75 balls with seven fours and Hodge from 21 balls with only two boundaries.

Rao played a patient innings, batting for almost two hours, to see India home. His innings included six fours.

Australia ‘A’ play New Zealand ‘A’ in a Twenty20 match on Sunday.—AP
