EU should be ready to place sanctions on Iran: Italian PM

Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni said the European Union should be ready to place new sanctions on Iran if the crisis in the Middle East doesn’t come to an end, Reuters reports.

“If Tehran continues down the wrong path…the EU must be ready to increase pressure through new targeted measures,” Meloni was cited as saying in parliament by Reuters news agency.

She also criticised Israel’s far-right Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir for his comments on Italy, which she called “unacceptable for Italy and also undignified for Israel”.
