KARACHI: A day after a newly married woman died at her parents’ home in Surjani Town, police registered a murder case against her husband, officials said on Wednesday.

However, Surjani SHO Sohail Khaskheli said that suspect Shaharyar has not been arrested yet.

Misbah Shaharyar, 18, was brought dead to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital on Tuesday. Her brother told the media that she was tortured by her husband in their Khokhrapar home.

On Wednesday, deceased’s mother Shahnaz lodged an FIR at the Surjani Town police station under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

She told the police that her daughter, Misbah, had tied the knot with Shaharyar Butt on March 19 on her free will. She said soon after Shaharyar started beating her as he demanded a motorcycle in dowry. Later, they came to know that it was his fourth marriage.

She stated that on June 7 someone told her son Usman that Misbah was badly tortured and thrown out of her home by her husband. Later, her daughter arrived at her home in an injured condition. She was taken to a private hospital for treatment but on June 9 she died at home at 11:30pm.

She said that the body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors examined it. However, she admitted that the family did not allow doctors to conduct a post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death.

She said Shaharyar threatened them of dire consequences even after the burial and therefore they decided to register a case against him.
