The UN secretary-general’s personal envoy for the Middle East conflict and its consequences, Jean Arnault, is in the US capital for talks with government officials and others, according to Al Jazeera.

UN spokesperson Farhan Haq tells reporters the visit is part of Arnault’s “ongoing consultations”, including “in the context of Pakistani‑mediated negotiations between the United States and Iran”.

Arnault is also working to support “regional efforts to advance relations grounded in full respect for national sovereignty and mutual security”, Haq adds.
