PESHAWAR: A resident of the Chamkani area here on Monday alleged that the suspects nominated in his wife’s murder case were threatening him and his family to withdraw the FIR, and appealed to the police to provide him protection from the ‘culprits’.

Addressing a news conference at Peshawar Press Club, Abdul Sattar, a resident of the Bazaar Garhi area, claimed that his wife, Nazneen Begum, was killed eight months ago by her brother, Mohammad Hussain, and accomplices over a dispute involving property, gold and cash.

He alleged that the attack left two of his daughters seriously injured and that his house was later set on fire. Mr Sattar claimed that the sons of the prime suspect, identified as Basit and Hasnain, had been pressuring him to withdraw the murder case and were issuing threats against him, his daughters and grandchildren.

According to him, the suspects allegedly warned that his family would face serious consequences if the FIR against their father was not withdrawn.

Mr Sattar further alleged that whenever he approached the Chamkani police station over the threats, the accused persons were present there and appeared to enjoy official patronage. He claimed that after leaving the police station, he was subjected to intimidation to compromise on the case.

He said that due to security concerns and repeated threats, he had moved to Punjab, while two of his daughters remained at home.

He appealed to Capital City Police Officer Dr Saeed Wazir to act against those allegedly threatening his family. No official response from the police was immediately available over the allegations.
