National tennis starts

KARACHI: Zayed Ali, Muzammil Obaid, Sameer Khan and Mubashir Mum­taz advanced to the second Sohail University National Tennis Cham­pionship U-18 main round as the event commenced here at the Modern Club on Sunday.

Zayed beat Muzammil Yaseen 8-2, Muzammil defeated Ibrahim Qazi 8-2, Sameer overcame Uzair Khan 8-1 and Mubashir downed Syed Hanzala 8-1.

In the men’s singles main first round, Haziq Are­ejo, Hamza Pasha, Ruh­ab Faisal, Zain Nomi and Rahim Veqar all progressed.

Ruhab routed Junaid Jamal 8-0 and Zain crushed Hamza Essa Jee with the same scoreline.

In the women’s main first round, Dinara Akr­am, Eraj Batool, Varisha Khan and Mashal Hussain all emerged victorious.

The week-long event is being held under the auspices of the Pakistan Tennis Federation.
