LAHORE: The City Traffic Police has launched a crackdown on vehicles with outstanding e-challans aimed at strengthening traffic law enforcement and improving road discipline.
Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi issued clear directives for indiscriminate action against all defaulters under a newly-implemented zero-tolerance policy aimed at ensuring traffic discipline across the city.
Citizens have been advised to clear their pending e-challans promptly, as failure to do so may result in restrictions on access to various government services.
According to the CTO, special enforcement teams had been deployed on major roads, including The Mall, Jail Road, Gulberg’s Main Boulevard, Ferozepur Road, and Wahdat Road. Any vehicle found with unpaid e-challans would be required to clear all outstanding dues before being allowed to proceed.
Furthermore, access to 14 key police services had been linked with e-challan compliance. Defaulters may face restrictions on services such as driving licence issuance and renewal, character certificates, verification services, and other public facilitation services.
The CTO said Punjab Safe Cities Authority, Police Khidmat Markaz, and the Driving Licence Management System had now been integrated to ensure effective implementation of traffic laws and enhanced digital enforcement. He said a strict action was also underway against individuals attempting to evade enforcement by tampering with number plates, using tinted covers, applying black paper or obscuring registration numbers.
Mr Shirazi said adherence to traffic laws was a shared responsibility and essential for maintaining a safe, organised, and efficient traffic system. He said the use of modern technology and digital systems was making traffic management more effective, and violators would not be able to escape accountability.
