LAHORE/CHINIOT: Three members of the Ahmadiyya community sustained bullet injuries when an unidentified gunman opened fire outside a place of worship in Chenab Nagar on Friday night, police said.

According to the first information report (FIR) lodged by the Chenab Nagar police, the incident occurred at around 9pm when three volunteers were performing security duty outside Al Aqsa worship place.

Police said a bearded young man riding a motorcycle stopped near the gate of the worship place, pulled out a pistol and opened fire on the volunteers before fleeing the scene.

The injured men were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. One of the victims was reported to be in a critical condition.

The Chenab Nagar police registered a case against an unidentified suspect under Section 324 (attempted murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7-1 (c) of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Condemning the attack, Ahmadiyya Community spokesperson Amir Mahmood said it was the second such incident targeting Ahmadis in Rabwah within the last few months and had further heightened concerns about the community’s security.
