KARACHI: Mayor Murtaza Wahab has pledged that all relevant institutions will remain fully operational to ensure the peaceful conduct of majalis and processions and to provide the best possible facilities to mourners during Muharram.
The mayor made the commitment while presiding over a planning meeting at the KMC Building on Friday, bringing together city administration officials, municipal bodies, law enforcement agencies and religious scholars from various schools of thought.
“Inter-sect unity and mutual respect are the need of the hour,” the mayor said, urging people of all schools of thought to promote peace, brotherhood and tolerance while respecting each other’s sentiments.
Religious scholars at the meeting called for uninterrupted electricity supply at imambargahs, majalis venues and procession routes from the first to the 10th of Muharram.
Mr Wahab directed the institutions concerned to ensure uninterrupted power supply as well as encroachment removal, road repairs, cleanliness and sewerage improvement.
