Policeman injured in checkpost attack dies in KP

PESHAWAR: A police constable injured in a militant attack on Sra Khawar checkpost within the jurisdiction of Mattani police station on outskirts of the provincial capital succumbed to injuries, police said.

They said that constable Muhammad Zahir had sustained injuries when militants lobbed a hand grenade at the checkpost located on main Indus Highway on outskirts of the provincial capital, on February 27, adding that the cop was hospitalised but succumbed to injuries and embraced martyrdom.

A statement issued by city police read that the funeral was held at Peshawar’s police headquarters and was attended by CCPO Peshawar Dr Mian Saeed Ahmad, SSP Operations Farhan Khan, SP Headquarters Ali Gohar, divisional SPs, senior military and police officials besides relatives of the martyred cop.

Earlier, on Monday, body of a cop Hamza was recovered from Adezai area within jurisdiction of Mattani police station. Hamza was posted at police station Hashatnagri and was on leave when unidentified persons opened firing on him. His funeral was held at Peshawar’s police headquarters.
