Man booked for entering Parliament House without authorisation

ISLAMABAD: The capital police booked a man for entering the Parliament House without authorisation, breaching the security cordon and making a video, police said.

The incident took place on May 8, however, the case was registered with the police on June 1.

The case was registered in response to a complaint lodged by Sergeant at Arms Senate retired Maj Wajahat Afzal under sections 452 (House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of Pakistan Penal Code.

The FIR was registered over security breach, unauthorised entry and video recording at Parliament House parking area.

According to the FIR, on May 8 an unauthorised person gained unlawful entry to the Parliament House parking area through gate 1 at 11:23am and exited at 11:30am. He remained on the premises for seven minutes, during which he allegedly recorded video footage directed against a member of the National Assembly.

It was a serious breach of parliamentary decorum and security protocol. The police were requested to initiate immediate legal action against the unidentified person under the relevant law for entry into a restricted parliamentary area and recording video footage containing derogatory remarks against the member.

Senior police officers when contacted told Dawn on condition of anonymity that over the issue the Senate Secretariat conducted an inquiry and after finalisation of the probe a formal complaint was lodged for registration of the case and legal action.

The man came to the Parliament House along with a senator from the ruling party in a car, and got entry after clearance from the Senate staff, they said.

Later he stayed in the parking area and made video against a member of the National Assembly from the ruling party. The video got viral on social media, caught attention of the MNA who complained to the assembly’s secretariat.

After registration of the case the police started investigation to identify and trace the suspect.
