DERA MURAD JAMALI: A lightning strike killed one man and injured another on Monday in the Garasani area of the Kohlu district as heavy rain and thunderstorms battered the region for 24 hours, authorities said.

Gulbaz Somrani was walking home during the torrential downpour when the lightning struck, according to police. He was killed in the strike, while another passerby sustained injuries. “Gulbaz burnt badly while another man got injured who was identified as Najeebullah Somrani,” police said, adding that they were shifted to a nearby health facility.

Residents said the heavy rain and thunderstorms severely damaged several mud houses and blocked key roads, cutting off multiple neighbourhoods from the main city.
