KASUR: Pattoki police on Monday arrested a fake claiming to be Imam Mahdi and lodged a case against him under the provisions of blasphemy law.

According to the police, the suspect gathered a large number of people at Kashif Chowk area of Pattoki and publicly claimed to be Imam Mahdi. The suspect was later identified as a resident of Basti Pathananwali, Chunian, Pattoki Road.

The police say that the suspect, who is in his 30s, had earlier also made a video while making the same false claim and uploaded it on social media.

When informed, a huge contingent of police arrived at the scene and arrested the suspect, recovering his mobile phone containing the alleged blasphemous video.

The police lodged a case against the accused under section 395 A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage the religious feelings), 298 A ( the use of derogatory remarks spoken or written against holy personages in Islam) and 298 (uttering words, making sounds or placing objects with the deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings of any person) of the PPC.

The case was lodged on the complaint of SHO Sub Inspector Muhammad Ashfaq of Pattoki.

After his arrest, the police shifted the suspect to an undisclosed place as his claim created unrest in the area.

ARRESTED: Kanganpur police claimed to have arrested a woman for allegedly selling charas at Karachi Mor locality, recovering 2kg drug from her.

According to the police, Kiran Shahzadi was allegedly selling charas in the area. Following a tip-off, the police conducted a raid and arrested her with charas.

A case was lodged against the suspect.
