RAWALPINDI: Three people were killed, 189 others injured, 84 of them critically, in 167 road traffic accidents reported to Rescue 1122 in the Rawalpindi district during the three days of Eidul Azha.

A spokesman for the emergency services said timely aid was provided to all victims. In these road traffic accidents, three people were killed, 84 injured critically and 102 were slightly injured, he said. The majority of the road traffic accidents involved car and motorcycle riders. The accident victims included 157 men and 32 women. Most of the victims were between the ages of 11 and 40 years.

The causes of accidents included speeding, careless driving, tyre blowouts and others.

Fire incidents

The rescue services said 46 fire incidents were reported in the district in three Eid days; however, nobody was reported injured. The spokesman said rescue teams responded at the scene in a timely manner and carried out rescue operations.

Firefighters controlled the flames which helped save a total of about Rs19 million potential damages.

The rescue services also received reports about 10 forest fires. The causes of the fires included short circuits, human negligence and others. Rescue 1122 said they have also been working to reduce the number of fire incidents. Enforcement of fire safety rules, fire safety training and other programmes are ongoing, the spokesman said.

Traffic in Murree

More than 75,000 vehicles entered Murree since the first day of Eidul Azha; however, the traffic flow remained smooth in the resort town on Saturday.

The chief traffic officer Murree said more than 200 traffic police officials had been deployed to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.
