TOBA TEK SINGH: A woman died and four persons were injured in heavy windstorm and rain in the districts while mango orchards and electricity installations were damaged in south Punjab.
During the heavy windstorm, the wall of a house fell at Chak 12 on the Syedwala Road in Nankana Sahib district. As a result, a woman died and three other persons were critically injured.
Rescue 1122 officials said they removed debris and rescued all four persons on whom the wall had collapsed but one of them, Sidra Faryad (30), had already expired.
The other three wounded were provided with first aid and were shifted to Nankana Sahib DHQ Hospital. They were identified as Zohra Bibi (55), Umaira Amjad (13) and Ahsan Yasin (8).
KASUR: A woman suffered injuries as the roof of the house collapsed due to a windstorm at Chak 14 in the limits of Pattoki Police Station.
Locals and rescue personnel took the injured woman, Zarina, 35, out of the debris. The injured was rushed to THQ Hospital Pattoki for treatment.
BAHAWALPUR: A strong windstorm lashed Bahawalpur and several other areas of south Punjab on Saturday, causing heavy damages to the electricity feeders and installations of the Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) and mango orchards.
According to Mepco, 200 feeders in its nine circles, including Bahawalpur, tripped, causing inconvenience to the power consumers in south Punjab with the disruption of electricity supply. The company said that in Bahawalpur division’s circles of Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan, 34, 45 and 50 feeders tripped, respectively.
Mepco CEO Gul Muhammad Zahid has issued directions to immediately start the restoration work of the damaged feeders.
Meanwhile, according to mango orchards’ owners in Bahawalpur division, the untimely windstorm damaged mango trees, resulting in colossal losses.
The mango crop is ready to be harvested in the area.
