LAHORE: The Suthra Punjab Agency Lahore (SPAL) - formerly the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) - has completed preparations for a large-scale cleanliness operation across the city ahead of Eidul Azha with special focus on cattle markets and surrounding areas.
To review sanitation arrangements, Director General Suthra Punjab Authority Babar Sahib Din visited the Manawan cattle market and several city areas along with Deputy CEOs Altaf Ansari and Mubeen Ahsan. During the visit, the teams briefed the officials on cleanliness measures being carried out at cattle markets established across Lahore.
The officials informed the delegation that waste generated at the markets was being removed on a daily basis, while water sprinkling was being ensured through washer vehicles and washer rickshaws to maintain cleanliness and reduce dust.
The DG also visited the Suthra Punjab camp at the Manawan cattle market, where he met sanitation workers and inspected the quality of waste bags being provided for Eid cleanliness operations. The agency will distribute 1.5 million eco-friendly waste bags free of cost in Lahore to facilitate the proper disposal of animal waste during the Eid. Meanwhile, the SPAL cleaning operational teams have been mobilised across the city to ensure exemplary cleanliness arrangements during the Eid.
A meeting was also held at the Town Hall to review final-stage preparations for the Eid cleanliness operation. During the meeting, the DG directed the officials to ensure that all resources of the agency remained fully operational on the ground during the Eid cleanliness drive. He instructed officials to ensure 100 per cent utilisation of sanitation workers and machinery in the field. He sought entire city be made “zero waste” a night before the Eid. He also ordered authorities to ensure a clean environment for citizens before Eid prayers.
During the briefing, field operation teams informed the participants that machinery would be deployed at all 103 temporary collection points a night before the Eid whereas cleanliness and washing operations have already been completed at more than 181 sacrificial sites, over 1,500 mosques and 268 graveyards across the city.
