Two young cousins die in road crash

TOBA TEK SINGH: Two young cousins died and three others were injured in a traffic accident involving two motorcycles and a motorcycle-rickshaw near Chak 367 JB, Jallianwala Stop on Samundri Road, in Gojra tehsil on Monday.

According to Rescue 1122, a motorcycle-rickshaw was going from Samundri to Gojra, when a speeding motorcycle, coming from the opposite direction, collided with the three-wheeler.

As a result, two cousins, later identified as Muhammad Ali Mubashir (16) and Hamza (20), who were riding the bike, were seriously wounded and died on the spot.

Meanwhile, another motorcycle also collided with the damaged motorcycle-rickshaw and the bike, resulting in injuries to the riders, Imran (46) and Adnan (44), who were shifted to the Gojra Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital.

WOMAN DIES: A woman reportedly died and her husband and minor son sustained critical injuries in a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a tractor-trolley near Chak Khan Baigwala at Khanewal.

Rescue 1122 officials say Zafar Iqbal (46), his wife Shamim Akhtar (35) and son Abdul Rehman (9) were on way to Khanewal on a bike when it collided with a tractor-trolley coming from the opposite direction.

As a result the woman died on the spot, while the father and son were seriously injured.

The woman’s body and the two injured persons were shifted to Khanewal DHQ Hospital.

SPA WORKERS’ DEMO: Suthra Punjab Authority (SPA) workers staged a protest demonstration at Dijkot, Faisalabad, against a contractor for non-payment of their salaries for the last three months.

The protesting SPA workers blocked Faisalabad-Rajana Road for traffic for half an hour and chanted slogans against the contractor, demanding their unpaid salaries.

Speaking to the media their representatives said that Eidul Azha was approaching, but they were still waiting for their three-month salaries.

The SPA senior officials assured the protesters that higher authorities will be apprised of the issue, pledging it would be resolved soon. Following the assurance, the workers ended their protest.

SAFETY NETS: The process of installing safety nets made of nylon ropes on manholes is underway in Toba district to protect the lives of people and pets, by preventing them from falling into the manholes.

An official says that officers concerned have been directed by the deputy commissioner (DC) to demonstrate the strength of the safety nets by standing on them for checking their quality and durability.
