Woman shot dead in Lyari

KARACHI: A woman was shot dead, allegedly by the wife of a policeman, in Lyari on Monday evening, police said.

South DIG Syed Asad Raza said the incident took place at the policeman’s house in Allama Iqbal Colony, where his wife shot and killed Batool, 25, with her husband’s pistol.

During an initial probe, it transpired that the deceased woman had recently been divorced and had been involved with the policeman, identified as Asif, who is posted at the Napier police station.

The DIG said a murder case was being registered.

The body was shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) and Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) arrested five suspects for their alleged involvement in extortion-related crime.

“The arrested extortionists are active members of the notorious Jamil Chhanga and Ahmed Ali Magsi gangs,” said SIU SSP Dr Samiullah Soomro.
