ISLAMABAD, July 5: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has offered scholarships to Thai Muslim teachers and students for postgraduate studies in the public-sector universities of the country.

A project submitted by the commission in this regard has been approved by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) of the Planning Commission, says a statement.

The project would result in enhanced cooperation between Thailand and Pakistan in the field of education.

The scheme envisages training of 25 Muslim teachers of southern Thailand at MPhil and PhD levels and award of 50 scholarships to Thai Muslim students for postgraduate studies in Pakistani universities. The scholarships are being offered by the HEC on the prime minister’s directive.

The project will cover the tuition fee of Thai students in Pakistan universities, return air travel (economy class), living expenses for stipulated period of degree programmes, book allowance, health care, etc.

The 25 scholarships for Thai teachers include 10 scholarships in science subjects, 10 in languages and five in education. Whereas 50 scholarships for Thai students include 20 scholarships in science subjects, and 10 each in management sciences, arts, education, Islamic law and languages.
