KARACHI: A minor boy was run over and killed by a bus after his motorbike hit a rickshaw and fell onto the main road in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area on Saturday, officials said.

They said an underage boy, along with his 12-year-old pillion rider, was riding the motorbike recklessly and had reportedly violated a traffic signal before crashing into a rickshaw. As a result, both fell to the ground, and meanwhile, a passing red bus ran over the pillion rider before the driver applied the brakes.

He was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) in an ambulance, where he died during treatment. The motorcycle rider managed to flee the scene. Police arrested the bus driver and impounded the vehicle at the Defence police station.

In a statement, traffic police said reckless and negligent driving by the underage motorcyclist appeared to be the probable cause of the fatal accident.

An Edhi Foundation spokesperson said the identity of the deceased boy could not be ascertained until late at night.
