SUKKUR: Three men were killed and two others wounded in a fierce gun battle between two rival gangs over an old enmity in Ghelpur, a village situated within the riverine area of Kandhkot-Kashmore district, on Friday.
Officials at the Ghelpur police station said that the embattled Shar and Kosh gangs had long been attacking each other over several issues.
On Friday, the officials added, heavily armed men from both sides took up positions within their respective villages and started trading fire.
After hours-long gun battle, three men — Bhori Shar, his brother Maroof Shar and Nooro Kosh — were found dead. Two others, with critical wounds, were taken to a hospital for emergency treatment.
The entire area remained gripped in fear and panic as intermittent shooting was continuing till late in the evening.
According to locals, sophisticated heavy arms were being used by both sides and they were not allowing police access into the battle ground.
Woman among three gunned down
In the Gublo area of the same district, an armed clash between two rival groups belonging to the Bangwar community left a woman and two men dead.
The deceased men were identified as Mahar Bangwar and Ghulam Farid Bangwar. The dead woman’s name was not disclosed.
The area police attributed the clash to an old enmity between the two groups.
Meanwhile, reinforcement has been sent to both the troubled areas to prevent further bloodshed and restore peace.
