GUJRAT: Police booked four persons, including a youth who allegedly ran naked to cover a 100-foot distance on the main Sargodha Road at Gojra in the broad daylight, allegedly to win a Rs5,000 bet placed by three others.

The incident took place on May 18, and its video went viral on social media.

Taking notice of the incident, the Mandi Bahauddin district police officer (DPO) ordered registration of a case against the four suspects.

According to the FIR, filed by Gojra police on the complaint of Sub-Inspector (SI) Ghulam Abbas Tahir, Samar Hayat, a resident of Shahpur Saddar, was dared by one Ehsan of the same area and two unidentified suspects, to run naked, covering a distance of 100 feet, at Qainchi Chowk, to win a Rs5,000 bet.

Samar accepted the challenge and ran naked on the road. The episode was recorded by an unidentified man with his phone camera and later shared on social media.

The FIR says the incident caused mental distress and hurt public sentiments.

The police have booked the four suspects -- Samar, Ehsan and two unidentified persons -- under sections 294, 509, 109 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, along with sections 5 and 7 of the Punjab Prevention of Gambling Ordinance 1978.

The charges include public obscenity, outraging public modesty, gambling-related betting and abetment.
