KASUR: Six suspects were killed during alleged encounters in Kasur, Okara and Toba Tek Singh on Monday.
In Kasur, three members of an inter-district gang were gunned down in an alleged encounter with Crime Control Department (CCD) at village Kot Gama in the Chunian Police Station area.
The CCD claimed that the suspects were killed by their accomplices.
According to the CCD, on the information that robbers were looting passers-by near Kot Gama, it rushed to the spot. Seeing the police, the suspects opened fire and fled. They hid themselves in the fields and continued firing.
When the dust settled down after an exchange of firing that lasted for about half an hour, the CCD personnel found bodies of three suspects from the fields. The accomplices of the suspects managed their escape, they claimed.
Police shifted the bodies of the suspects to THQ Hospital for a post-mortem and identified them as Tanvir, 35, Zeeshan, 30, and Asif Raza, 30.
The CCD claimed that the suspects were wanted in dozens of cases of robberies with Kasur, Sheikhupura, Okara, Nankana, Jhelum, Sahiwal and Faisalabad police. According to the CCD, the gang was already under the radar of CCD for the last one week.
It is learnt that six robbers met each other in Sheikhupura jail for the first time and they established a gang in 2024. When they were released by courts, they again started house and roadside robberies. The suspects would get a car on rent, commit a robbery and then leave for another city.
Chunian police had lodged a triple murder case against the suspects.
OKARA: Two suspects were shot dead in an alleged encounter near Thatha Roshan Ka on Gogera-Jandraka road.
As per the first information report (FIR), Gogera police patrol team was positioned near Sheikhu Mor when it received a message that four suspects crossed the police picket and were heading toward Ravi side.
Police chased them, the suspect abandoned their motorcycle and started shooting on the chasing police team from the maize fields.
The police rounded up the gunmen. When the shooting stopped, police found one suspect killed and other injured.
As per the FIR, the injured introduced himself as Sajid Othwal and the deceased as Mashood, residents of Thattha Kharyka. He identified the escaped gunmen as Shukat Ali and Liaqat Ali Othwal. The injured Sajid also succumbed to his wounds before reaching hospital.
Gogera police registered a case. They said Mashood had Rs1m head money after he was declared a proclaimed offender.
TOBA TEK SINGH: An alleged robber was killed in an encounter with Jaranwala Circle CCD.
According to police officials, CCD Jaranwala in-charge Adeel Shaukat was on his way to arrest the proclaimed offenders along with his team who confronted four suspects near Chak 68 GB. They started firing on cops as soon as they saw the police and after cross-fire one suspect was arrested in an injured condition by the firing of his accomplices who managed to escape.
The police shifted the injured to Jaranwala THQ hospital but he could not survive. He has been identified as Imran Rashid of Chak 59 GB, who turned out to be a proclaimed offender wanted in more than 42 robberies in different police stations of Faisalabad and Lahore.
BAHAWALPUR: Nowshehra Jadid police claim to have arrested a wanted suspected dacoit in an injured condition after an “encounter” at Head Nowshehra, about 40km from here, on Monday.
According to police, during night patrol, three suspects riding a motorcycle allegedly opened fire on a police party at a picket. The police say they returned the fire.
During the exchange of fire, as the suspects attempted to flee, their motorcycle rammed into a roadside tree and they fell on the ground.
The police claim that two of the suspects fled the scene while firing on them, while the third accidentally suffered a bullet injury “at the hands of his accomplices” and was arrested. The arrested suspect was identified as Shahid, who, according to the police, was wanted in a number of dacoity and robbery cases.
A snatched motorcycle was recovered from his possession, along with illegal weapons, the police said, adding that two stolen goats were also found at the scene. The police shifted the injured suspect to hospital for treatment and registered an FIR against the him and his fleeing accomplices.
