KARACHI: A ride-hailing driver was shot dead at a tea shop in North Karachi within the remit of the Sir Syed Town police station.

Area SHO Syed Farrukh Hashmi said that Shahzad Sarwar, 38, had parked his vehicle and was having tea at a roadside shop when two armed motorcyclists emerged there.

Quoting witnesses, the officer said they talked briefly and then the victim threw his car key, which hit one of the suspects in the face, who then resorted to firing and fled without taking any loot.

He suffered a bullet wound in the face and was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The SHO said that before the fatal shooting, the same suspects had snatched a cell phone and other valuables from a citizen a short distance from the spot. It was possible that they attempted to loot Shahzad and, when he resisted, they shot him and fled, he added.

Man killed by house robber

In another incident within the remit of the Docks police station, Asadullah, 34, was shot and killed during a house robbery in Machhar Colony.

The police said the robbers entered his home at Maherbani Chowk near Maryam Masjid and looted jewellery and other valuables. In the meantime, Asad woke up and raised alarm. He tried to overpower a robber, who resorted to firing and fled with looted valuables.

Asad sustained a critical bullet wound in the head and was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where doctors pronounced him dead.
