LAHORE: Five students of Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), Multan, were injured in a clash between two student organisations late on Friday night.

Pashtun Student Council (PSC) activists were sitting in a canteen and holding their organisational activity when Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) members armed with batons and pistols attacked them.

The IJT activists resorted to aerial firing which forced the PSC to end their activity and flee the scene. The IJT activists also attacked with batons, resultantly, five of the PSC members suffered injuries.

The BZU administration registered the case against more than 20 nominated and unidentified IJT activists and formed a committee to investigate the matter.

According to the first information report, the IJT activists had attacked the PSC activists who were gathered at a canteen to hold their get-together.

It stated that the IJT activists resorted to aerial firing and most of them were ‘non-students’ and ‘outsiders’.

BZU Resident Officer Dr Muqarrab Akbar told Dawn that the case was registered and a committee was formed to take disciplinary action against the IJT activists who were enrolled in the university.

He said the administration would not allow any organisation to create a law and order situation on the campus.

He said: “The situation is under control and examinations were conducted peacefully on Saturday on the campus.”
