SAHIWAL: The district government has launched a demolition drive against 28 illegal housing societies falling under the jurisdiction of the District Council.

The operation was initiated on the directives of the Sahiwal deputy commissioner/administrator Samiullah Farooq.

The DC, through a notification last month, had declared 28 housing schemes illegal for lacking mandatory legal documents required for clearance.

The demolition operation was led by Chief Officer Khudadad Tarid and District Officer (Planning) Javed Gondal of the Zila Council.

Speaking to Dawn, DC Farooq stated “none will be spared and there is zero tolerance.” Among the 28 housing societies whose offices and infrastructure were demolished are those located along Muhammadpur Road and 90/6-R Road.

Sources said the offices of Arooj Garden, Al-Haram Garden, and Canal City were razed during today’s action.

The demolition operation will also be started in tehsil Chichawatni too. Sources added heavy machinery is used to demolish structures.

STRAY DOGS: Around six stray dogs killed a calf in Tibbi Jay Singh, Noor Shah, on Wednesday.

The calf belonged to laborer Shahid Nazir. It was third such incident in the area.
