KARACHI: A young man was shot dead and his brother wounded by robbers on Superhighway on Saturday, police and hospital officials said.
The Sachal police identified the deceased as 27-year-old Mansoor Ahmed and the wounded as Rashid, 23.
Officials said the incident took place near the Punjab Bus Stand. The brothers had arrived at the bus stand to board public transport to go to their home in Ghotki when two armed robbers approached them and attempted to snatch cash and valuables.
The duo resisted and Mansoor allegedly managed to snatch a pistol from one of the suspects. Seeing that, his accomplice opened fire on both brothers, who sustained critical wounds. They were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced Mansoor dead on arrival, while Rashid was admitted for treatment.
A police officer said investigators recovered the robbers’ pistol from Mansoor’s possession and were further probing the case.
Speaking to the media at the hospital, Rashid said he and his brother worked at a sweet shop in Nazimabad, where they also lived. He said Mansoor had married two years ago and had a six-month-old daughter.
However, she passed away due to an illness on Friday. Rashid said they were waiting for a bus to reach their home in Ghotki when the robbers targeted them.
