GUJRAT: A constable of the Crime Control Department (CCD) who was shot dead by the firing of motorcyclists was laid to rest in Jalalpur Jattan city on Friday.

Sources in the CCD said the suspects involved in the incident had been identified.

Earlier in the day, the funeral prayers of the deceased were first offered at Gujrat Police Lines where Punjab CCD chief Sohail Zafar Chatha, Gujranwala RPO Khurram Shahzad Haider, senior officials of Gujrat district police and representatives of civil society participated.

A contingent of Gujrat police saluted the deceased. Later, funeral prayers were offered a second time in Jalalpur Jattan city, in the native graveyard of the deceased where he was buried in the evening.

Official sources said Gujrat CCD Police Station registered a case against the two unidentified suspects on the report of Inspector Adnan Ahmed of the CCD.

Video footage of the CCTV cameras showed that the two armed motorcyclists opened fire at Constable Fiaz Shah as soon as he tried to nab them. Shah also was riding a motorbike and was in civvies.

A source in the CCD said both the suspects involved in the incident had been identified. He added that one of the suspects involved in the incident had a previous criminal record but no fresh case was registered against him before that incident whereas an uncle of that main suspect had also been killed in an encounter with the CCD police in another district.

He said police were chasing the suspects who would soon be arrested.
