KARACHI: Vessel rescued

Published July 4, 2006

KARACHI, July 3: Galaxy-I, an Iran-owned vessel with Mongolion flag, was rescued by Karachi Port Trust personnel on Monday when it started drifting in the open sea due to technical fault.

The empty vessel was on way to the Busher Port from Penang, Malaysia, with Iranian crew on board. While in the Arabian sea near Karachi the vessel suffered from an acute fuel shortage and subsequent technical failure.

As soon as the vessel crew sent an SOS, the KPT's staff assisted the stricken vessel and tugged it to the mooring area near Manora inside the harbour after a four-hour operation.—APP
