LAHORE: Punjab Public Prosecution Department Secretary Salman Ghani has instructed district offices to ensure merit, professionalism and expeditious prosecution of cases to dispense justice to the oppressed.

During visits to Gujranwala and Kasur district public prosecution offices, the secretary said effective prosecution served as backbone of the justice system and ensured timely dispensation of justice.

At Gujranwala office, District Public Prosecutor Rabnawaz Bhon and others briefed the secretary on pending cases, overall prosecution performance, service delivery and office discipline. They discussed various proposals to modernise the prosecution system in line with requirements of the justice system.

Stressing that only effective prosecution could compensate victims and punish the criminals, the secretary emphasised that strengthening and modernising the prosecution system, in line with emerging challenges, was the need of the hour. He stressed that the prosecution officers must discharge their duties with utmost responsibility and dedication.

During a visit to the Kasur office, Mr Ghani assessed attendance, office discipline and the overall performance of prosecution matters. He carried out a detailed inspection of records, including the diary of reports submitted under Section 173 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. He also reviewed the process of uploading case data to the Case Flow Management System (CFMS).

The performance of both the Scrutiny Committee and the Appeal Committee came under review, with the secretary evaluating their efficiency in handling prosecution work. While inspecting the Legal Aid Cell, he directed the officers to enhance public awareness initiatives to ensure that deserving individuals could benefit from free legal assistance.

The secretary also visited the proposed site for the construction of a new District Prosecution Office building.
