KARACHI, July 3: The leader of opposition in the Sindh Assembly, Nisar Khuhro, condemned excessive billing by the KESC to its consumers despite long and unannounced power breakdowns in the city and demanded high-level probe into affairs of the power utility.

In a statement issued here on Monday, Nisar Khuhro also condemned police torture on unarmed people protesting against electricity and water crisis in Karachi and urged the people to take to streets on the ARD’s call for the restoration of genuine democracy in the country.

According to him, Sindh remained worst hit by electricity crisis in June 2006, when people had to suffer due to 14-16 hours long unannounced load-shedding in urban areas while in rural Sindh, electricity often remained suspended for many days in a week, which was unprecedented in the history of the country.

“But despite that, people were issued increased electricity bills, showing the heedless attitude of the KESC and Wapda authorities” he added.

Mr Khuhro also condemned police and the KESC personnel's torture on people, who visited the KESC complaint cells for registration of their complaints and termed it a reflection of ruler's dictatorial attitude towards the common people.—PPI
