DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Three officials of Rescue 1122 were abducted by unidentified armed men near Safdar village on the main Dera Road in Tank district on Thursday evening, police and administrative sources said.

According to officials, the incident took place within the limits of Syed Mureed Akbar police station, where assailants set up a roadside checkpoint and intercepted the Rescue 1122 team. The gunmen reportedly took the personnel at gunpoint and shifted them to an undisclosed location.

The abducted officials were identified as senior incharge Waqar Alam, clerk Mudassar and driver Iftikhar. Sources said the suspects also took away the team’s private Cultus car.

A heavy police contingent reached the site soon after the incident and cordoned off the area. A search operation has been launched to recover the abducted personnel and trace the attackers.

Deputy Commissioner Tanveer Ahmad confirmed the incident, while officials said further investigation was under way.
